Province Of North Carolina 1663-1729 Abstracts of Land Patents by Margaret M. Hofmann 1979 Reprinted 2009  This is a publication anyone researching an NC ancestor must have at hand.  It contains some 3,400 abstracts of the first land granted during NC's first land granting era when it was a Province under eight Lord Proprietors.  The abstracts are full:  providing the user with the name of the grantee, date of the conveyance, number of acres, and the land description with adjoining land owners named and geographic features given.  These land records themselves make up a remarkably reliable series for a researcher because they are so rich in information regarding NC and its people of more than 300 years ago. Chowan Precinct North Carolina Genealogical Abstracts of Deed Books 1696-1723 by Margaret M Hofmann. 1976 reprinted 2009  Also included in this book are five years of court minutes 1714-1719. This book is a rich source of information as about a dozen counties came from Old Chowan.  Some of which are: Gates, Hertford, Northampton, Bertie, Old Edgecombe...The deed books for Old Chowan Precinct date from about 1696 and are a treasure trove of genealogical information for one undertaking research in NC.  Some of the oldest names in Eastern NC history appear in early Chowan records - Smithwick, Laurance, Spruill, Walston, Rogers, Whitaker, Watson, McKinne, Maul, Moseley, Nairn, Murphrey, and many, many more. Complete name index, map, soft cover, 295 pages.  $25

Edgecombe County was formed in 1741 from Bertie County.  It is located in the Eastern section of NC.  It is bounded by present day counties of  Martin, Pitt, Wilson, Nash, and Halifax Counties.

Genealogical Abstracts of Wills, 1758-1824 Halifax County North Carolina by Margaret M. Hofmann published 1970 reprinted 2009  More than 1,000 will abstracts from one of North Carolina's older and genealogically important counties.  Complete index of about 7,000 names, two maps, SOFT cover, 246 pages. $24

Halifax County, NC was formed in 1758 from Edgecombe County, NC.  It is located in the NE part of the state.  It is bounded by Bertie, Martin, Edgecombe, Nash, Warren, and Northampton counties.

Abstracts of Deeds Northampton County, North Carolina Public Registry Deed Book One and Deed Book Two  by Margaret M. Northampton County, North Carolina 1759-1808 Genealogical Abstracts of Wills by Margaret M. Hofmann 1975 reprinted 2009 This book contains 603 will abstracts.  Northampton County, NC joins the Virginia line.  Its records are especially useful in migrations as many ancestors passed through this northeastern NC border county.  Indexed (about 4,000 names), fold-out map from Mouzon 1775, SOFT cover, 175 pages.  $23

Pruitt Published 2004 Covers the 64 counties in existence in 1800.  Genealogical researchers know the value of maps: one reason is the land measurement system in use in North Carolina relates land to natural barriers making the location of creeks, rivers, etc., necessary to find the approximate location of your ancestor's land(s).  In addition to showing waterways in the NC counties formed by 1800, Dr. Pruitt indicates some later counties: for instance Greene, Lenior, and Wayne formed from the genealogical puzzle Dobbs County.  48 pages, soft cover, 8 1/2 x 11 size, completely indexed by creeks, runs, swamps, islands, lakes, mountains, etc.  $15

Creeks and Rivers in South Carolina (1825) by Dr. A. B. Pruitt  Published 2004 This helpful book of maps should help the genealogical researcher trying to locate waterways in SC.  This books contains only the rivers, creeks, and branches in SC.  Soft cover, 28 pages of maps plus index,   8 1/2 x 11 size. $15
